STEP TO STEP
The history of Alpespace began in 1986, by the creation of the "Syndicat Intercommunal à Vocation Unique (SIVU) du Parc d'activités de la Grande Ile". It gathered the 3 districts of Francin, Montmélian and Sainte-Hélène-du-Lac.
The elected representatives worked on creating a 105 ha land reserve.
In 1991, the authorisation was delivered by the autorities to create an economic park and the first building permits were given.
But the growing of the park didn't last...
In 1993, the project of hight speed freight line Lyon-Turin stopped the park development, as the area was on the line...
In 1998 this " statu quo " ended. Then, the elected representatives were able to give a new impulse to the Park, as well as a new name : Alpespace.
In 1999, they decided to build the Pyramid, a service and reception centre for the firms
Inaugurated in july 2000, this building was also the headquarter of the SIVU de la Grande Île. It shelters a restaurant, a business centre and conference rooms.
At this time, there was 11 firms and 300 employees on the park.
Thanks to these facilities and to the diversificated real estate offers, 50 firms ans 1100 employees were already settled on the Park in 2005.
At the same time, the 15 districts around Montmélian gathered in a community, ending with the SIVU de la Grande Île.
At the beginning of 2006, a new organisation took the management of the Park : the Syndicat Mixte Alpespace. It gathered the new community of Montmelian and the Department of Savoie.
The growth went on, and in 2011, more than 120 firms and 1600 employees worked on Alpespace.
Since the 19th of may 2008, the Syndicat mixte is chaired by Madam Béatrice Santais, the Montmelian 's councelor at the Savoie's Department.
